Why Professional Tiling Makes All the Difference

Tiling is the most visible element of any bathroom or kitchen project. Every line, every joint, and every cut is permanently on display. Poor tiling cannot be hidden — it defines the room for years to come. Professional tiling, by contrast, creates surfaces that look effortless and last decades.

At Blue Sky Luxury Bathrooms, our tilers specialise in bathroom and kitchen environments where precision is critical. Wet areas demand waterproof adhesives, flexible grouts, and correct substrate preparation. Shower niches require precise mitre cuts. Large-format tiles need perfectly flat walls and clip-levelling systems to eliminate lippage.

We tile walls, floors, splashbacks, shower enclosures, wet rooms, and feature walls using porcelain, ceramic, natural stone, glass, and mosaic tiles. Whether you need a single splashback or a complete re-tile of a large bathroom, we deliver the same standard of precision on every project.

We serve homeowners across Tamworth, Lichfield, Sutton Coldfield, Burton-on-Trent, Nuneaton, Birmingham, and the wider West Midlands.

The Signs of Poor Tiling — and Why They Get Worse

The most common tiling failure is hollow tiles — tiles that are not fully adhered to the substrate. They sound hollow when tapped, crack under foot traffic, and eventually debond from the wall. This happens when tilers use spot-fixing (adhesive in the corners only) instead of full-bed application.

Lippage — uneven edges between adjacent tiles — creates visible shadow lines, catches bare feet, and collects dirt in the steps. This is preventable with clip-and-wedge levelling systems but skipped by fitters in a hurry or lacking the tools.

In wet areas, non-waterproof adhesive and standard grout allow moisture behind tiles. Over months, this causes adhesive breakdown, black mould growth, and eventual tile detachment. The repair requires stripping all tiles, treating the substrate, and re-tiling from scratch.

Poor cutting — visible chips at edges, uneven lines around fixtures, and misaligned pattern joints — cheapens the entire bathroom regardless of how expensive the tiles are. Precision cutting with diamond blades and wet saws is not optional; it is fundamental to professional tiling.

    Our Process

    How We Deliver Results,
    Step by Step

    1

    Surface Assessment

We check wall and floor conditions — flatness, stability, and moisture levels — to determine if preparation work is needed before tiling.

    2

    Substrate Preparation

Walls are plastered, boarded, or skimmed to achieve flat, stable surfaces. Floors are levelled with self-levelling compound where required.

    3

    Layout Planning

We plan tile layouts to ensure symmetrical cuts, balanced patterns, and correct positioning around fixtures and features.

    4

    Waterproofing (Wet Areas)

Shower zones, wet rooms, and splash areas receive liquid-applied waterproof membrane before tiling begins.

    5

    Tile Installation

Tiles are fixed using full-bed adhesive application with clip-and-wedge levelling systems for large-format tiles. All cuts use diamond blades.

    6

    Grouting & Finishing

Joints are grouted with flexible, mould-resistant grout. Edges are sealed with colour-matched silicone. All surfaces are cleaned and inspected.

    Why It Matters

    What You Gain When You
    Work With Us

    Full-Bed Adhesive Application

Every tile is fully adhered to the substrate — no shortcuts, no hollow tiles, no future failures.

    Large-Format Expertise

We specialise in 600x1200mm and larger tiles that require perfectly prepared surfaces and precision levelling systems.

    Waterproof Systems

All wet area tiling includes proper waterproofing — liquid membranes, corner seals, and pipe collars — not just silicone.

    Precision Cutting

Diamond wet saws and manual cutters produce clean, chip-free edges around fixtures, niches, and borders.

    Natural Stone Knowledge

We understand the specific requirements of marble, travertine, slate, and limestone — including sealing, adhesive compatibility, and joint sizing.

    Clean, Efficient Work

We contain dust, protect surfaces, and leave your home clean at the end of every working day.

Tile Types, Techniques & Technical Specifications

Porcelain tiles are the most popular choice for bathrooms and kitchens. They offer excellent water resistance (absorption below 0.5%), high durability, and a wide range of finishes including matt, polished, and textured. We cut porcelain with diamond blades on wet-cutting tile saws for clean, precise edges.

Ceramic tiles are lighter and easier to cut than porcelain, making them suitable for wall applications in dry and splash areas. They are available in a vast range of colours, patterns, and sizes. We advise on the appropriate tile type for each application based on water exposure and traffic levels.

Natural stone tiles — marble, travertine, limestone, granite, and slate — bring unique character to any space. Each stone has different porosity, hardness, and movement characteristics that affect adhesive selection, grout type, joint width, and sealing requirements. We apply impregnating sealers before grouting to prevent staining.

Mosaic tiles (typically 25x25mm to 50x50mm on mesh sheets) are used for feature walls, shower floors, and decorative borders. Their smaller size provides additional grip in wet areas and allows them to conform to curved or sloped surfaces such as wet room floors.

Large-format tiles (600x600mm, 600x1200mm, 800x800mm, and above) create a seamless, contemporary look with fewer grout lines. They require flat substrates (tolerance of ±3mm over 2m), C2 TE rated adhesive for extended working time, and clip-and-wedge levelling systems to prevent lippage.

Wall preparation for tiling may include removing old tiles, applying tile backer boards (such as Wedi or Marmox), plastering, or skimming. We assess each surface and carry out whatever preparation is needed to ensure tiles are fixed to a stable, flat, and compatible substrate.

Grout selection depends on the application. Cement-based flexible grouts suit most wall and floor applications. Epoxy grouts are used in high-traffic or hygienic environments. Silicone sealant is applied at all change-of-plane junctions (wall-to-floor, wall-to-wall, around fixtures) to accommodate building movement.

We provide tiling services across Tamworth, Lichfield, Rugeley, Swadlincote, Burton-on-Trent, Sutton Coldfield, Atherstone, Nuneaton, Birmingham, Cannock, Walsall, Coalville, Hinckley, Derby, and West Bromwich.
