Why Walk-In Showers Are the Most Requested Bathroom Upgrade
Walk-in showers have become the most popular bathroom upgrade in the UK for good reason. They create an open, spacious feel, eliminate the hassle of shower curtains and sliding doors, and provide a safer, more accessible showering experience for all ages.
Unlike a standard shower enclosure, a walk-in shower uses fixed glass panels — typically frameless — to create an open entry point. Combined with a low-profile or flush-fit tray, the result is a clean, contemporary aesthetic that makes any bathroom feel larger.
At Blue Sky Luxury Bathrooms, we design and install walk-in showers tailored to your space. Whether you are converting a bath into a shower, replacing an existing enclosure, or building into a new extension, we handle every element — plumbing, tiling, glass, and fixtures.
We serve homeowners across Tamworth, Lichfield, Sutton Coldfield, Burton-on-Trent, Nuneaton, Birmingham, and the wider West Midlands. Book a free consultation at our showroom or request a home visit.

Common Walk-In Shower Mistakes That Cost Homeowners
The most frequent mistake is underestimating water containment. A walk-in shower without proper drainage gradient, sufficient glass coverage, or correct floor levels results in water escaping onto the bathroom floor — damaging flooring, skirting boards, and potentially the room below.
Cheap glass panels flex, leak at brackets, and develop water stains that cannot be removed. Budget shower valves lose temperature regulation within months, creating scalding risks. Low-quality trays flex underfoot, crack seals, and develop leaks at waste connections.
Poor tiling in the shower zone — particularly around niches, valve cutouts, and panel fixings — allows moisture behind tiles, causing adhesive failure, mould growth, and eventual tile debonding. These issues are invisible until tiles start moving or grout turns black.
Many fitters also neglect adequate drainage. A walk-in shower with a rainfall showerhead and body jets delivers 15–20 litres per minute. If the waste system cannot handle that flow rate, water backs up and floods the bathroom floor every time you shower.
Our Process
How We Deliver Results,
Step by Step
Consultation & Measurement
We assess your bathroom, discuss glass configurations, and measure for precise panel sizing and tray dimensions.
Design & Product Selection
We create a layout showing glass positions, tray type, valve placement, and tile selections — approved before work begins.
Preparation & Plumbing
Existing fittings are removed, pipework is modified or installed, and the floor is prepared for the new tray or wet floor system.
Tray & Tiling Installation
The shower tray is levelled and sealed, walls and floors are tiled with waterproof adhesive and grout, and niches or shelving are built.
Glass & Fixture Fitting
Frameless glass panels are measured, templated on-site, and fixed with precision brackets. Shower valves, heads, and accessories are installed.
Testing & Handover
We run the shower system at full pressure, check drainage, verify glass seal points, and hand over your completed walk-in shower.
Why It Matters
What You Gain When You
Work With Us
Open, Spacious Design
Fixed glass panels and an open entry create a sense of space that enclosed shower cubicles cannot match — even in smaller bathrooms.
Easy to Clean
No tracks, no frames, no sliding doors. Frameless glass wipes clean in seconds and eliminates the mould traps found in framed enclosures.
Safe for All Ages
Low-profile trays and open access make walk-in showers safer for older adults and children — no high step, no door to navigate.
Thermostatic Control
We install thermostatic shower valves that maintain constant temperature regardless of pressure changes — preventing scalding and cold surges.
Premium Glass Panels
We use 8mm and 10mm toughened safety glass with anti-limescale coatings, fixed with high-grade stainless steel or chrome brackets.
Full Warranty Protection
Every walk-in shower installation is backed by our workmanship warranty covering plumbing, tiling, glass, and all fixtures.
Walk-In Shower Options: Trays, Glass, Valves & Finishes
Shower trays for walk-in installations are available in low-profile (25mm), ultra-slim (typically 40–90mm), and flush-fit (tiled-over) configurations. Low-profile trays provide the cleanest look with minimal step height. Flush-fit trays require gradient formers similar to wet room construction. We advise on the best option based on your floor structure and drainage position.
Glass panels are the defining feature of a walk-in shower. We install single fixed panels, return panels (L-shaped configurations), and flipper panels that swing inward to reduce spray. Standard glass thickness is 8mm; 10mm is recommended for panels over 1200mm wide. All glass is toughened to BS EN 12150 and available with easy-clean nano-coatings.
Shower valve options include concealed thermostatic mixers (for a clean wall finish), exposed bar valves (for retrofit installations), and digital shower systems (for precise temperature and flow control). We install one-outlet, two-outlet, and three-outlet systems to accommodate fixed heads, hand showers, and body jets.
Rainfall showerheads range from 200mm to 500mm diameter and can be ceiling-mounted, wall-arm-mounted, or fixed to a riser rail. We calculate water pressure requirements and recommend suitable pump or unvented cylinder upgrades where existing pressure is insufficient.
Tile options for walk-in shower walls include large-format porcelain (reduced grout lines for a cleaner look), feature mosaics for accent walls, and textured natural stone. For shower floors, we use tiles with minimum R10 slip resistance. Recessed niches for shampoo and accessories are built into the wall structure during tiling.
Brassware finishes include chrome, brushed nickel, matt black, brushed brass, and gunmetal. We ensure all components within the shower zone — valves, heads, grab rails, and accessories — match in finish and style.
We install walk-in showers for clients across Tamworth, Lichfield, Rugeley, Swadlincote, Burton-on-Trent, Sutton Coldfield, Atherstone, Nuneaton, Birmingham, Cannock, Walsall, Coalville, Hinckley, Derby, and West Bromwich.
